Watchers

A pair of ravens flew over worlds and long seas,

To make a nest on a nearby champak tree,

And in their keen, watchful eyes I could see,

A familial care and concern of some degree.

The summer night sky lit up into a zillion lights,

A pair of distant stars felt special, strange, and bright.

A gesture like a smile from the great heavens,

Crediting my survival and quest for sustenance.

The winds have voices from the past and the present,

Retelling the stories long lost, considered absent,

Carrying the morals and wisdom of one’s long gone,

Bringing them to our hearts where they belong.

The splattering of rain plays strange music,

An ethereal melody presented by nature’s acoustic,

And in those notes I could relish those favorite songs,

The ones that I buried in my heart, unfelt for very long.

I won’t complain, every time I called your name,

You appeared in some form, playing nature’s game,

And whether I felt lonely, lost, or stranded,

The very thought of you kept me grounded.

My watchers from the heavens or from the unknown lands,

Always by my side, for me taking a spiritual stand,

I realize, there’s a surreal protection hidden in their absence,

For I have been blessed with the shield of their divine presence.

Dedicated to my Nana, your wisdom and guidance still steers my way through the rough terrain of life. And to my Sweetest, dearest, loveliest mommy!!
